The Asproflor Association, during EIMA held in Bologna, presented the awards related to the Italian circuit of Flowering Municipalities, during its national meeting.

The Commission, made up of professionals selected from the leading figures in the Italian floriculture sector, first awarded Municipalities across Italy the Quality of Life Environment Mark – Comune Fiorito 2024, with Terruggia from Alessandria as the annual new entry, to which the official flag was assigned.

During the event, the Municipalities that will represent Italy in the 2025 edition of the “Communities in Bloom” global competition were also announced: Bellaria Igea Marina (Rimini) and Villareggia (Turin). This year, Limone sul Garda (Brescia) participated with excellent results, winning the silver medal, five flowers, and a special mention.

The awards for schools were then presented: first place went to the Santa Venerina Comprehensive Institute (Catania), and second place to the IC of the Moretta district in Alba (Cuneo).

The collaboration between UNCEM and Asproflor continues, with the latter offering its expertise and professionals to the “Living in a Flowering Municipality” project, dedicated exclusively to small towns with limited resources but eager to improve their territory with the beauty and colors of flowers: around one hundred communities across Italy have already joined.

At the opening, the girls awarded in the Donna Comuni Fioriti 2024 competition, dedicated to promoting local traditions, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion, received well-deserved applause: the winner is Ludovica Timossi from Ingria (Turin); also on the podium were Samantha Giusiano from Frassino (Cuneo), with the “Woman Tradition” sash, and Gaia Regonesi from Santa Venerina (Catania), with the “Eco-sustainable Woman” sash.

A moment of discussion was also held between public administrators, municipal technicians, and sector experts to share experiences and best practices, in the spirit of collaboration that drives Asproflor’s associative reality. Among the topics addressed were European regulations on sustainability, the management of public green spaces and trees in urban areas, choices for improving the landscape and educational gardens, as well as the use of cooperative animals for mowing and sustainable mulching.

A focus session was then dedicated to the presentation – from design to results – of the innovative “VerdeComune” project, first launched in Italy this year by Asproflor in collaboration with the Municipality of Bellaria Igea Marina (Rimini). The project created an open-air floral exhibition where innovative and eco-friendly solutions for urban and tourism-based floriculture were tested. It was a very positive experience, which will be replicated next year in another area in Italy that will also host the 2025 national meeting. The next national event of the Flowering Municipalities circuit will be at Euroflora in Genoa, in the spring.
