The fifth edition of the Radicepura Garden Festival, the Mediterranean Garden Biennial, will take place in Giarre from May to December 2025. This year’s theme, Chaos (and) Order in the Garden, will be explored by teams of landscape designers under 36, selected through an international competition. The call for entries attracted over 1,100 designers from more than 60 countries, confirming the growing global interest in this one-of-a-kind event.
The selected young designers will interpret the annual theme, introduced by Artistic Director Antonio Perazzi:
“From chaos, nature is reborn, and ideas take shape. In this historical moment, gardens stand between the natural and the artificial. As formal spaces lose their certainties, a stylistic shift emerges, embracing small details as fundamental values. In today’s gardens, the wonder of creation no longer contradicts leisure; instead, there is greater awareness and respect for the environment, favoring slow, natural rhythms.”
A Special Guest: Sarah Eberle
This edition will welcome Sarah Eberle, an internationally renowned landscape designer and honorary member of the Royal Horticultural Society. With 17 RHS Gold Medals at the Chelsea Flower Show, Eberle is known for her innovative contemporary techniques, particularly in rural settings with a strong emphasis on sustainability. She will create a signature garden to enrich the park’s prestigious collection, which already includes contributions from François Abélanet, James Basson, Paolo Pejrone, Michael Péna, Antonio Perazzi, Andy Sturgeon, and Kamelia Bin Zaal, alongside works and installations by Alfio Bonanno, Emilio Isgrò, and Adrian Paci.
A Mediterranean Hub for Landscape and Garden Design
The Radicepura Garden Festival is the first international event dedicated to Mediterranean garden design and landscape architecture. Founded and curated by Botanica Srl, the biennial aims to promote and enhance the Mediterranean landscape by bringing together world-renowned landscape architects and emerging talents.
Held in the Radicepura Park in Giarre, between Mount Etna and the Ionian Sea, the festival showcases temporary and permanent garden installations. The five-hectare park is home to over 3,000 plant species and 7,000 varieties, including shrubs, flowers, trees, rare palms, medicinal, and aromatic plants. This living archive serves as a center for experimentation and education, making Radicepura a true hub of excellence in landscape design.
