The design project for EUROFLORA 2025 has been officially selected to represent Italian excellence at the Italian Pavilion of the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, taking place from May 10 to November 23, 2025.
This recognition marks a moment of great pride for Porto Antico di Genova and architect Matteo Fraschini. The general layout concept developed for the 13th edition of EUROFLORA GENOVA 2025, commissioned by Porto Antico and designed by Fraschini for Urges–Gruppo Valagussa, was chosen by the curators of the Italian Pavilion for its high research quality, conceptual originality, and deep resonance with the 2025 curatorial theme:
“TERRAE AQUAE. Italy and the Intelligence of the Sea.”
EUROFLORA’s masterplan was conceived as a sequence of immersive spaces designed by various exhibitors, guided by unifying principles. The project focused on design processes capable of shaping and narrating a continuum of spaces that connect the temporary with the permanent, the real with the imaginary.
Throughout the exhibition path, visitors were accompanied by green installations called “Origami”, freely inspired by fishing nets, bird of paradise flowers, and sails, which served as narrative markers for the event. The inclusion of this project in the Italian Pavilion was motivated by its recognized ability to offer a meaningful contribution to contemporary architectural discourse and to enrich the collective narrative surrounding Italy’s relationship with the sea
