Deforestation accepted address indicated by Italy

The postponement of the deforestation regulation, approved by the European Parliament, represents a significant victory for Italy, which, along with many other governments from different political backgrounds, had proposed delaying its implementation due to the devastating effects it would have on agricultural production and processing.

The request for a delay was made not only by our producers but also by the countries of origin of the goods, highlighting the current inapplicability of the proposed rules and the high risk of fostering a parallel illegal market. Moreover, it would have strengthened production systems that do not respect environmental rights.

Germany, during the G20 in Brazil, had requested a six-month delay, despite being governed by a red-green coalition, while Italy proposed a one-year delay, a suggestion that was ultimately accepted.
