Italy’s green economy: here’s a picture of the state of health

In Italy, the green economy has achieved significant results in sectors such as the circular economy and organic farming. In fact, the country reduced its CO2 emissions by more than 6% in 2023, and if this trend continues, it could reach a 55% reduction by 2030. However, alongside these achievements, some challenges remain in certain sectors: soil consumption continues, affecting 7.14% of the national territory, and even extends into areas of hydraulic vulnerability. Car registrations increased in 2023, but electric vehicles are still few.

This is the snapshot of Italy’s green economy contained in the “State of the Green Economy Report,” presented at the opening of the 2024 Green Economy Summit in Rimini, part of Ecomondo. The event was promoted by the National Council for the Green Economy, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, and under the patronage of the European Commission and the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy.
