The municipality of Limone sul Garda (Brescia) has received numerous awards at the 30th edition of the international Communities in Bloom flower competition, of which Asproflor is the sole Italian partner.
The municipality of Limone sul Garda (Brescia) triumphed at the 30th edition of the international Communities in Bloom flower competition, a contest focused on promoting urban green spaces and environmental awareness. The awards ceremony took place on October 19 during the organization’s symposium in the city of Charlottetown (Prince Edward Island, Canada). Present to receive the award were city councilors Matteo Segala, Gabriela Rosa, and Sofia Bernardi.
Limone sul Garda, the only Italian city participating in the competition this year, achieved the highest recognition with five red flowers out of five, a milestone that reflects the excellence of the area. Additionally, the city received a special mention for the “Ciclopista del Garda” project, a stunning path overlooking the lake, ideal for walking or cycling. Limone also won a silver medal, tying with Lewes, a town in Delaware, in the “Small Communities” category.
During the summer, judges from Communities in Bloom visited the various participating cities to evaluate them based on several criteria: environmental awareness, community involvement, conservation of natural heritage, aesthetic appearance of the city, and care for trees, plants, and flowers.
Judges Dr. Andrea Bocsi and Alain Cappelle, who visited Limone sul Garda, wrote: “The ‘Ciclopista del Garda,’ inaugurated on July 14, 2018, represents an extraordinary example of the commitment of the municipality of Limone sul Garda to sustainable tourism. This fascinating three-kilometer pedestrian and cycling path, winding along the shores of Lake Garda, has become one of the region’s most important attractions. The project not only promotes sustainable mobility but also offers breathtaking views, suspended between the lake and the sky. As of 2023, the cycle path has recorded over 2 million crossings, confirming how sustainable tourism can generate tangible benefits for the community and the environment.”
The selection of Italian municipalities and cities to be nominated for the “Communities in Bloom” award is entrusted to the Asproflor Association – Comuni Fioriti, the sole Italian partner of the competition, which for years has promoted the image of Italian floriculture, green tourism, and the role of flowers in the daily life of urban environments.
“We are extremely proud of the triumph of the municipality of Limone sul Garda at the 30th edition of the international Communities in Bloom competition. This extraordinary result is a concrete demonstration of our communities’ commitment to promoting urban green spaces and environmental sustainability,” comments Sergio Ferraro, president of the Asproflor association. “In particular, the special mention for the ‘Ciclopista del Garda’ highlights how a sustainable tourism project can not only enhance the territory but also represent a model of environmentally respectful development.”
“In the current context, with ongoing climate change and environmental concerns, municipalities participating in the competition can be proud of their efforts to provide sustainable solutions for the benefit of society and the planet,” concludes the organization “Communities in Bloom.”
